Is NSR mandatory?

The answer is “NO”…

While joining a new company, the HR will ask you to apply for NSR. If you have time to register and give biometric data, you can do it. However if you want to avoid it due to lack of time, you may skip it. But don’t tell the HR, you don’t want to do it. Say that you have applied for it or planning to apply soon. NSR may help you in background check if you are a regular job hopper but it won’t have any adverse affect on your employment even if you don’t do it. Every company has it’s own Background Check (BGC) mechanism. Anyways, it’s good to know about NSR.

 What is NSR?

India has emerged as the global hub for IT and ITES industry and is providing services to foreign clients ranging from corporate, public bodies and even foreign governments. India can remain attractive to such foreign clients only so long as we are able to keep up our service delivery to their satisfaction and demonstrate that we are following best practices in recruitment, information security, etc.

The premier Software industry association, NASSCOM has established a database of employees’ pre-verified resume called “National Skills Registry”. The registry aims to register all industry employees on a web-enabled employee owned and managed database, uniquely identify each employee based on bio-metrics. NSR already has more than 15 lakh IT/ITES professionals in India registered and leading players in the IT industry are part of this initiative

By registering with NSR, your credentials will be kept confidential and the contents will be available only to your immediate employer and such parties specifically authorized by you.

 WHY NSR ?

 • Global clients are concerned about the Credentials / Backgrounds of Indian IT / ITES Employees, handling personal/critical information of their customers/citizens

• The National Skills Registry initiative aims to create, operate & maintain a national level database of IT / ITES professionals with verified identity, education and career information details

• NASSCOM hopes that the NSR initiative will raise the level of security thereby protecting the interests of companies, clients and honest professionals

What is in it for me?

• Having a permanent profile on an industry-wide database driven by NASSCOM.

• NSR Registration will be promoted as a benchmark standard for information security.

• Enhanced credibility of registered and verified information.

• Deterrent for competing job applicants with inflated and bloated profiles.

• Safe and verified repository of your personal, education and career details

• Companies can view the profile only with individual’s permission

• You will get an access to your profile where you can update / edit information, have access to who visits your profile etc.

What is in it for the Employer ?

 • Image enhancement as a Secure Off-shoring destination, with Global client’s confidence.

• Industry wide common accepted standards for back ground check practices.

• Self sustaining system for hosting & sharing existing information as an industry resource and collecting / verifying new information.

• Create Uniqueness among registered professionals, ensuring that only genuine candidates are applying for employment

You would appreciate that if we are to seek business from foreign governments/clients, the credentials of our employees handling their critical information becomes important. The HR processes like confirmation of service, promotion and foreign placements can be faster if the company gets a third party view on the background of the employee!

Therefore we request and recommend you to subscribe your resume to the NSR.
