Our team was trying to find out a reason for a 53% turnout for voters in Bangalore. Most of the people do not vote because they do not get immediate benefits. For example, an employee’s salary or HRA or conveyance allowance won’t  increase if he votes or not. However many voters just vote for few Kg. of Rice, Sari, Alcohol and other freebies. They decide the fate of the country. It is high time that the working class votes religiously.

In Democratic India, general elections take place every five years. All those who are eighteen years of age have a right to vote. A number of candidates seek election. They move from door to door. They hold public meetings and explain the programs of their parties. If they get majority of votes, they win; but if they do not, they lose. An election, therefore, is like a battle. But this battle is fought in a peaceful way. It is a battle of ballots, not a battle of bullets.

Importance of Voting: An examination, however, is not always a true test of merit. This is true of elections as well. Even bad persons very often win and good persons lose, why? Our voters do not know the importance of vote. A ballot paper we know is not just a piece of paper. It is a very powerful weapon. It changes a government without shedding even a drop of blood. But do the people always make a right use of their ballot paper? No, not always. They vote for a candidate in the name of some group or caste. Their poverty, too, does not allow them to use their vote well. How can poor people remain honest and not be bribed? So, our elections are neither completely free nor fair.

The Importance of Making Your Voice Heard by Voting People often choose not to vote because they feel their vote does not count, but one vote does count in many ways. Your choice to vote or not, will have far reaching consequences on people all over the world, many of whom do not have the right to vote themselves. In local and national elections, lawmakers are elected who make laws, policies, and appointments that will have effects for years to come. The most common reason people say they do not vote is, one vote does not count, but it does. If everyone used an excuse and did not vote, what kind of government would we have? Many people choose not to vote; they believe that this choice only has an effect on them; this is simply not the truth. Your choice not to vote has consequences for people not only in this country, but also all over the world.
